Engage your young learner in a fun and educational engineering workshop designed specifically for ages 7 to 9. This one-day program uses specialised engineering kits with small components and magnets to inspire creativity and problem-solving.
Children will explore the iconic steel exoskeleton of Powerhouse Parramatta, learning how structures are made strong and stable. Through hands-on activities, they will experiment with materials, forces, and stability while designing and testing their own creations.
The workshop encourages teamwork and critical thinking, making it a perfect introduction to engineering concepts in a supportive environment.
This workshop runs for four hours from 10:00 to 14:00 on Saturday, 28 November 2026. It includes drawing activities, building challenges, and guided experimentation under direct supervision.
Parents and carers are advised to discuss safe handling of small parts and potential choking hazards with their children before attending. The program is generously supported by the Sir William Tyree Foundation.
Additional sessions in the series include Structure Lab for ages 9–12 and Exoskeleton Design for ages 12–15, held on consecutive days.
The event takes place at Powerhouse Parramatta, located on Dharug and Burramattagal Land, at Lang Walker Family Academy, Learning Studios, Level 2, 34 Phillip St, Parramatta NSW 2150.
Powerhouse Parramatta is accessible and offers resources for school visits. Plan your visit ahead to make the most of your experience.
The workshop uses specialised kits containing small components and magnets, so supervision is strict. Parents should ensure children understand safety precautions.
If you have any questions or concerns, the Learning Team at Powerhouse Parramatta is available for discussion.
