What to Expect
Join a community-driven effort to revive the Patawalonga’s saltmarsh habitats, essential for local fisheries and coastal health. This working bee offers a rewarding outdoor experience where you can make a real difference in preserving biodiversity.
Expect to engage in practical activities like removing invasive weeds and clearing debris to support native saltmarsh species. It’s a fantastic opportunity for youth and adults to connect with nature and learn about coastal ecosystems.
The sessions are designed to be inclusive and educational, providing all necessary equipment and guidance to ensure a safe and effective restoration day.
Activity Details
The working bees run on multiple dates from August through November 2026, each session lasting from 9:30am to 12:00pm. Activities focus on rehabilitating saltmarsh patches by:
- Removing invasive weeds to help native plants thrive
- Clearing rubbish and debris that smothers vegetation
Participants should come prepared with enclosed shoes or gumboots, weather-appropriate clothing, insect repellent, hat, sunscreen, and a water bottle. Gloves are optional but some will be provided.
Location and Access
The event takes place at Patawilya Reserve, located at 25 Adelphi Terrace, Glenelg North SA 5045. This coastal reserve is easily accessible and provides a beautiful natural setting for restoration work.
Participants are encouraged to check the weather forecast and wear suitable clothing for outdoor work. The reserve’s environment supports a rich diversity of wildlife and is a key habitat for recreational fish species.
Important Information
This is a free event open to youth and adults interested in environmental conservation. All tools and materials for weed removal and litter collection will be supplied by the organizers.
Safety is a priority; please wear appropriate footwear and clothing to protect against wet conditions and insects. The event is supported by OzFish and the City of Holdfast Bay Council.
