Get ready for a creative and fun-filled workshop designed especially for teens aged 12 and above. Under the guidance of Simone Linder-Patton, participants will explore the art of clay crafting by designing and building their own character pots. This is a fantastic opportunity for young artists to express their creativity and learn new skills in a supportive environment.
Using soft clay slabs, teens will create cylindrical forms such as small vases or open forms like plates and bowls using hump or slump molds. Each piece will be decorated with vibrant Under Glazes and textured to add personality and charm. The finished artworks will be fired in Simone's kiln and ready for collection within four weeks.
This workshop is perfect for parents looking to engage their children in a meaningful and artistic activity during the school holidays, fostering both creativity and hands-on learning.
The workshop runs on 21 April 2026 from 10:00 to 12:00. All materials are included in the $10 cost, making it an affordable and accessible option for families. The session is held at The Summit Community Centre, a welcoming venue equipped with accessible facilities.
Participants will be guided step-by-step through the clay crafting process, from shaping to decorating. The workshop encourages experimentation and personal expression, ensuring each teen leaves with a unique creation. Pieces will be fired after the workshop and available for collection approximately four weeks later.
This event is suitable for teens with varying levels of experience, whether they are beginners or have some prior exposure to clay art.
The workshop takes place at 4 Crescent Dr, Norton Summit SA 5136, Australia, within The Summit Community Centre. Parking is limited, so carpooling is recommended. There are two carparks available: an upper carpark and a smaller lower carpark with one disabled parking space. A loading zone is provided for drop-offs.
Additional parking is available along Crescent Drive near Norton Summit Primary School and behind Norton Summit CFS, though care should be taken when crossing roads. The Scenic Hotel also offers limited parking.
The community centre is fully accessible, featuring disabled parking, an access ramp, disabled toilets, and facilities suitable for families including baby change tables and a kitchen area.
The Summit Community Centre is open Monday to Thursday from 9:00 to 15:00 and closed on Fridays and public holidays. In case of Extreme or Catastrophic Fire Danger Ratings for the Mt Lofty Ranges, the centre will close and all classes will be cancelled without notice, with refunds or rescheduling offered.
Participants are advised to dress appropriately for the weather, especially if the event is held in cooler months, and to bring a torch or phone light if attending evening sessions. The centre is inclusive and welcoming to all, including LGBTQI+ individuals and families.
Parents can contact the centre for any enquiries at 8390 0457 or via email at thesummit@ahc.sa.gov.au during opening hours.
Tickets are priced at $10 per participant and must be booked online in advance. This affordable fee covers all materials needed for the workshop, making it an excellent value for a creative school holiday activity.
Booking early is recommended due to limited spaces and parking availability. Payment policies include reimbursement or rescheduling in the event of fire danger-related cancellations.
This workshop offers a unique chance for teens to develop artistic skills, socialize with peers, and take home a personal piece of art, making it a memorable school holiday experience.
