What to Expect
Step into a fun and empowering self-defence workshop tailored specifically for LGBTQIA+ youth. This session is designed to help you build confidence, learn practical safety skills, and connect with others in a welcoming space. Whether you're new to martial arts or looking to enhance your abilities, this workshop offers a supportive environment to try something new.
The workshop is facilitated by Penny Gulliver, a 6th Dan Black Belt and LGBTQIA+ pioneer, ensuring expert guidance and an inclusive atmosphere. Expect to engage in hands-on activities that focus on personal safety and self-empowerment.
This event is perfect for young people aged 12 to 24 who want to boost their confidence and have fun while learning valuable skills.
Activity Details
The session runs for 1.5 hours, providing ample time to learn and practice self-defence techniques. You will be guided through practical exercises that focus on staying safe and looking out for yourself and others.
The workshop is part of the 2026 Youth Week celebrations hosted by Northern Beaches Council in partnership with GLMA Newtown Martial Arts. It is free to attend but requires prior booking to secure your spot.
All skill levels are welcome, and the environment is designed to be safe, fun, and inclusive, celebrating diversity in all its forms.
