Step into the vibrant world of skateboard art with Melbourne-based artist Tricia Van Der-Kuyp, also known as ‘Vandal’. This workshop invites children to unleash their creativity by painting their own skateboard decks using stencils, spray cans, sharpies, and collage elements. It’s a unique opportunity to explore mixed media art in a fun and supportive environment.
Vandal, a proud Wiradjuri woman, brings her rich cultural heritage and extensive experience in public art to inspire young artists. Participants will learn that art has no rules and perfection is not the goal—just self-expression and creativity.
All materials are provided, including a decorative skateboard deck that’s perfect for display but not for riding. This workshop is designed for two age groups: 8 to 10 years and 11 to 13 years, so be sure to select the appropriate group when booking.
This hands-on workshop runs on multiple dates from September 24 to October 4, 2026, with sessions from 10:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 16:00. Each session offers a relaxed and engaging environment where children can experiment with different artistic techniques.
The workshop encourages kids to develop their own style while learning about the cultural significance of art in the community. It’s a fantastic way for children to build confidence and enjoy a creative outlet during school holidays.

The workshop takes place at ArtPlay, located on Russell Street Extension in Melbourne 3000. ArtPlay is a welcoming space dedicated to children’s creativity and artistic exploration.
The venue is easily accessible by public transport and offers an inspiring environment for young artists. Parents can relax in the nearby café or explore the surrounding area while their children are engaged in the workshop.

The skateboard decks provided are decorative and not suitable for skateboarding, so please do not expect a functional skateboard.
All art materials, including stencils, spray cans, sharpies, and collage supplies, are included in the workshop fee.
Parents are welcome to stay on-site or return at the end of the session to collect their children.
The cost for each child to participate in the Skateboard Deck Art workshop is $25.
Bookings must be made online in advance to secure a place in the preferred session and age group.
