Song Play is a delightful early learning music program designed especially for families with young children aged 0 to 5 years. Each week, children engage with a different musical theme that encourages foundational development in musical, movement, and creative skills. The sessions blend fun interactions with real instruments, musical games, dancing, and singing to create an immersive experience.
Led by early learning specialist Clare Zabrowarny, Song Play fosters a love of music through playful activities that support children's growth in a nurturing environment. It’s perfect for parents wanting to introduce their little ones to music in a joyful and educational way.
The program runs weekly during the public school term with two age-specific classes: one for 0-2.5 year olds and another for 2.5-5 year olds. Each session includes singing songs, musical games, movement and dance, listening and responding to live and recorded music, rhythmic activities, and hands-on percussion. The curriculum also integrates literacy through sung and spoken stories and imaginative group games that encourage creativity.
The sessions are based on the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework and use Kodály teaching methodologies to develop musical skills.
The sessions take place at Melbourne Recital Centre, located at 31 Sturt Street, Southbank, Victoria 3006. The venue is wheelchair accessible and welcomes assistance animals, ensuring a comfortable experience for all families.
Convenient transport options and parking are available nearby, making it easy for families to attend regularly.
Song Play is led by Clare Zabrowarny, a qualified music educator and violinist with over 20 years of experience. Clare combines her expertise in Kodály and Orff pedagogies with a passion for community development to deliver a unique curriculum.
The program supports children’s development in singing, aural perception, rhythmic skills, percussion instrument use, musical form understanding, and attentive listening.
Parents can expect a warm, engaging atmosphere where their children can explore music through movement, play, and interaction with others.
Term Three runs for eight weeks on Wednesdays: 15 July, 22 July, 29 July, 5 August, 12 August, 19 August, 26 August, and 2 September 2026.
Session times are 9:15 to 10:00 for 0-2.5 year olds and 10:15 to 11:00 for 2.5-5 year olds.
The cost is $180 per term, which includes a Song Play musical pack to enhance participation.
