Immerse yourself in the rich acoustic environment of Melbourne’s west with these unique sound walks. Led by landscape architect and acoustic ecologist Anthony Magen, you’ll discover the subtle and vibrant sounds that shape Moonee Valley’s landscape, from birdsong and rustling grasses to distant traffic and community life.
These walks invite you to slow down and engage deeply with your surroundings, offering a fresh perspective on the everyday melodies of the neighbourhood. It’s a perfect activity for families looking to connect with nature and culture in an engaging way.
Please note these are walking events, so comfortable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended to fully enjoy the experience.
The sound walks take place over three sessions:
- Saturday 24 October 2026, 12:00–13:00, meeting at Crown Street Stables
- Saturday 24 October 2026, 15:00–16:00, meeting at Valley Lake
- Sunday 25 October 2026, 11:00–12:00, meeting at Valley Lake
Each session lasts approximately one hour and is free to attend, but spaces are limited and booking is essential. The event is family-friendly and suitable for parents and school-aged children interested in nature and sound exploration.
The walks start at two key locations in Moonee Valley:

These heritage and natural sites provide a beautiful backdrop for the sound walks. Please be aware that the routes are variable and may include uneven terrain. If you have accessibility needs, contact the festival box office to discuss arrangements.
This is a walking event with routes that may change, so appropriate footwear and weather protection are highly recommended. The event is free but requires advance booking due to limited spaces.
