What to Expect

You’ll learn how to create and care for your sourdough starter, understand the key ingredients, and master the baking process using everyday kitchen tools. The session includes a fun Q&A and some light-hearted bread-related dad jokes to keep the mood lively.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with your own sourdough starter, a reliable recipe, and the confidence to bake delicious bread at home.
Activity Details
The workshop is led by Kym Ormond, a trained chef and permaculturist, who will guide you through each step of sourdough baking. Topics covered include:
- Step-by-step baking process
- Flour blend variations and their effects
- Feeding and caring for your starter
- Baking with standard home kitchen equipment
The session runs for two hours, providing ample time for demonstration and participant questions.
Location and Access
Held at The Summit Community Centre, located at 4 Crescent Dr, Norton Summit SA 5136, this venue offers accessible facilities including disabled parking and toilets. Parking is limited, so carpooling is encouraged. Additional parking is available nearby at Norton Summit Primary School and behind Norton Summit CFS.
The centre is inclusive and welcoming to all, including LGBTQI+ individuals and families with young children. Facilities include a commercial kitchen, baby change table, and a comfortable meeting space.
Important Information
Classes will be cancelled without notice if an Extreme or Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating is declared for the Mt Lofty Ranges. In such cases, payments will be reimbursed or the course rescheduled.
Participants are advised to dress for the weather and bring a torch or phone light if attending evening events. The centre is wheelchair accessible with ramps and disabled toilets.

Tickets are priced at $15 and must be booked online. Early booking is recommended due to limited space and parking.
