What to Expect
These school holidays, immerse your child in a creative and hands-on workshop where they will sculpt a unique clay portrait. Guided by Jasmine Stanley Dawson, a multidisciplinary artist and finalist of The Access Artybald Prize, participants will learn the basics of facial and head sculpting before personalising their work. This workshop encourages artistic expression and experimentation beyond traditional canvases.
The workshop is designed for children aged 12 and above, offering a perfect opportunity for young artists to develop their skills and create something truly personal. Whether sculpting a portrait of a loved one, a favourite character, or a self-portrait, kids will enjoy this engaging and inspiring art experience.
All materials are provided, but participants are advised to bring their own art smocks or wear clothes suitable for messy art-making. Parents and carers of children under 9 must remain on-site to supervise.
Activity Details
This one-off workshop is presented by Front Up Studios, in celebration of western Sydney’s diverse artistic community and alongside The Access Artybald Prize portrait exhibition. Jasmine Stanley Dawson, the facilitator, brings her feminist-inspired, autobiographical art practice to the session, making it a rich and meaningful experience.
The workshop runs for 1.5 hours, providing ample time for instruction, creative work, and personalisation of clay portraits. It is suitable for school-aged children who are keen to explore new artistic techniques and express themselves through sculpture.
Participants will gain foundational skills in clay portraiture, including shaping facial features and heads, and will be encouraged to infuse their creations with personal stories or inspirations.
