What to Expect
The classes are conducted by experienced midwives who guide you through managing labour and birth, including assisted and emergency caesarean births. You'll learn about induction, possible complications, and newborn care. The caesarean class focuses on elective caesarean birth expectations, newborn characteristics, and maternity ward stay.
Activity Details
- Labour, birth, and early parenting classes run over a full weekend: Saturday 08:15 to 16:00 and Sunday 08:30 to 15:00.
- Caesarean birth and early parenting classes are held on Saturdays from 08:15 to 16:00.
- Topics include breastfeeding, safe sleeping, emotional wellbeing, sleep and settling, and community supports.
- Booking is recommended 4-6 weeks before your due date to keep information fresh.

Classes take place at St Vincent's Private Hospital Toowoomba, located at 22-36 Scott St, Toowoomba City QLD 4350. The hospital is accessible and provides a welcoming environment for parents and their support persons.
Important Information
Only one ticket per family is needed, which includes attendance for a partner or support person. If your birth plan changes to a caesarean, contact the Dorothea Devine Maternity Unit reception to switch classes. Check with your health insurer to see if the class cost is covered under your policy.
