Bring your child to a warm and welcoming storytelling session where they can read alongside Daize, a trained Story Dog. These 15-minute sessions provide a unique, pressure-free environment that helps children improve their reading and communication skills by reading to a patient canine companion.
Children can choose to bring their own favourite books or explore the library's extensive collection. The presence of the dog and handler creates a calm atmosphere, making reading fun and encouraging for kids aged 7 to 12 years.
Parents are required to stay during the session and complete a consent form to ensure a safe and supportive experience for all participants.
The program runs every Tuesday from 15:45 to 17:00 at St Kilda Library, with 15-minute individual reading sessions.
Please note the program pauses during school holidays, so plan accordingly to secure your spot.
All sessions are wheelchair accessible, and additional accommodations can be arranged by contacting the library.
The sessions take place at St Kilda Library, a community-friendly venue with easy access and facilities designed to accommodate children and families.
The library offers a quiet and comfortable space ideal for focused reading activities.
Accessible by public transport and with parking nearby, it’s convenient for busy parents to drop in and stay for the session.
Bookings are essential as spaces fill quickly due to the program's popularity.
Parents must be present throughout the session and complete a parental consent form before their child participates.
The program is free of charge, making it an accessible literacy support option for families.
This is a free event, but you must book your child's session in advance to guarantee a spot.
To book, visit the Port Phillip Library Service website or contact the library directly via phone or email.
Volunteers interested in joining the program can find information packs and sign-up details on the library’s website.
