What to Expect
Step into a world of rich First Nations storytelling with artist Lisa Sorbie Martin, affectionately known as Aka. This engaging session invites children and their adults to explore hand-picked stories, including the specially created book "Aka Sorbie and the Sardines," which shares insights into Torres Strait fishing practices and ocean environment knowledge.
The story time is woven with prupa ilan pasin, Torres Strait values teaching love, respect, and care for family, community, and the environment. The immersive and interactive exhibition setting enhances the experience, making it both educational and captivating for families.

Activity Details
The story time sessions last approximately 30 minutes, offering a concise yet meaningful cultural experience. They are scheduled on three Saturdays: 30 May 2026 at 10:30 AM, 11 July 2026 at 2:00 PM, and 15 August 2026 at 10:30 AM.
The event is free of charge, making it accessible for families wanting to enjoy a cultural outing without cost. It is hosted within the Children's Gallery exhibition "Aka Sorbie: Saltwater Heart" at HOTA Gallery.
Participants are encouraged to arrive a little early to settle in and enjoy the gallery surroundings before the reading begins.

The event takes place at HOTA Gallery, located at 135 Bundall Road, Surfers Paradise, 4217. Parking is available onsite, including wheelchair accessible spaces, with up to four hours free parking upon registration at parking machines.
