Experience a convenient and eco-friendly way to dispose of your tree branches with the Summer Woodchipping Service. This service is designed especially for Sutherland Shire residents to help manage garden waste responsibly during the daylight saving months. It’s a great opportunity to clear your yard while contributing to sustainable waste management.
You will be required to load branches into your car or trailer with the cut end facing the rear. Council staff will unload the branches while you remain safely in your vehicle. You can also take home mulch by bringing your own buckets.
Please note that only cars, cars with trailers, and utilities are admitted, and tree cuttings must be between one metre and 250 mm in diameter. Smaller branches can be disposed of in your green lid bin.
The woodchipping service will be held on Saturday, 14 March 2026, from 09:00 to 15:00 at the Council Depot located at 13-15 Ethell Road, Kirrawee. This event is free of charge and open exclusively to residents of Sutherland Shire.
Certain materials are not accepted, including lawn clippings, stumps, spiky or thorny materials, household waste, and commercial or demolition waste. Approval may be required for tree removal or lopping, so please check with the Council’s Tree Preservation Officer if needed.
The woodchipper machine itself will not be onsite on the day. The service may be cancelled due to bad weather, with updates posted on the Council’s website.
The event takes place at the Council Depot, 13-15 Ethell Road, Kirrawee. Only vehicles such as cars, cars with trailers, and utilities are allowed entry. Residents must remain in their vehicles while unloading to ensure safety and efficiency.
Please ensure your load is covered before leaving the site to prevent debris from falling onto roads. The location is easily accessible within the Sutherland Shire area and is well signposted on the day.
