Join a gentle but powerful Tai Chi and Qigong series designed for continuing students who want to deepen their practice and enjoy mindful movement. Led by Qigong Master Simon Blow, these sessions blend traditional Chinese meridian theory with accessible, calming exercises suitable for adults of all ages, making it a great term-time activity for parents seeking stress relief and physical wellbeing.
What to Expect
Each session focuses on the Six Unity Qigong sequences, exploring flows that harmonise body, intention, Qi and spirit. You will experience slow, mindful movements that support posture, balance and relaxation while learning how exercises relate to the major organ groups and the five elements. The class is taught at an intermediate level so it moves at a steady pace while remaining welcoming to those continuing their practice.
The format is hybrid: attend in person at Lionel Bowen Library in Maroubra or join live via Zoom. In-person participants will also receive the Zoom link two hours before each session, so you can switch to online if needed. This flexibility suits busy parents who may need to join from home or pop in between school runs.
Parents will appreciate the calm, restorative nature of the class and the chance to build regular mindfulness and gentle exercise into a school term routine. The emphasis is on wellbeing, circulation, and stress reduction rather than high-impact fitness, making it accessible for those balancing family life and work.
Activity Details
Simon Blow draws on training from the Shanghai Qigong Research Institute, guiding students through the Liu He (Six Unity) practices that cultivate internal energy and bodily harmony. Expect clear instruction, demonstrations, and repetitions that help you learn flowing sets for spleen, lungs, kidney, liver and heart groups.
Benefits you will notice include:
- Improved posture, balance and coordination
- Reduced stress and increased calm through mindful movement
- Better circulation, mobility and a boost to overall wellbeing
- Practical qigong sequences you can practice at home
Classes run weekly on Mondays from 2 February to 23 March 2026, 11:30–12:30. There is also a Tai Chi Beginners course on the same dates from 10:00–11:00 for those newer to the practice, so families with varying experience can find a suitable session.
Location and Access
The in-person venue is Lionel Bowen Library and Community Centre, 669-673 Anzac Parade, Maroubra, with easy access and community parking nearby. The venue is part of Randwick City Library and aims to be welcoming and accessible for adults with varying mobility.
Online attendees join via Zoom; after registration you will receive a confirmation email, a Zoom link two hours before each session, and a reminder 15 minutes before the class. If you share a household device, other household members must register separately to view on a different device, so plan ahead for siblings or family members who may want to join in.
If you have access requirements or need support to attend, contact the library well before the first class so staff can assist with arrangements. The library encourages participants to arrive early for in-person classes to allow time for setup and to avoid disrupting the session.
