Discover the joy of oil painting in a welcoming and supportive studio setting designed for beginners and early-intermediate painters. Whether you want to capture the likeness of a beloved pet, create a stunning portrait, or paint a beautiful landscape, this course offers the perfect introduction.
Each session focuses on a core oil painting concept such as materials, underpainting, proportion, colour temperature, edges, and finishing techniques. Short demonstrations will inspire you, followed by plenty of studio time to practice and develop your skills.
Individual guidance is provided throughout the course to help you progress at your own pace and bring your artistic vision to life.
This 7-week course runs every Wednesday evening from 18 February to 1 April 2026, from 18:00 to 21:00. All materials are included in the course fee, so you can focus on painting without worrying about supplies.
Materials provided include shared oil paints, mediums, solvents, and painting surfaces (two canvas boards or gesso boards per participant). You are welcome to bring your own apron and personal reference images to personalise your work.
The course fee is $220 per participant, covering all materials and instruction.
Classes are held at Atwell House & Gallery, located at 586 Canning Hwy, Alfred Cove. This venue offers a comfortable and inspiring environment for creative learning.
The location is accessible by car and public transport, with parking options nearby. It’s a great spot for parents looking for an engaging evening activity.
This course is designed for adults with little to no prior experience in oil painting, making it ideal for beginners and early-intermediate artists.
Participants can work from provided reference images or bring their own photos of portraits, pets, or landscapes. Additional painting surfaces are available for purchase on site if you wish to create more artworks.
Please bring an apron if you prefer, as oil paints can be messy. Individual support is available during studio time to help you develop your skills confidently.
The full 7-week course costs $220 per participant, which includes all necessary materials. Booking in advance is recommended to secure your place.
