Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of the Dharug people through The Gulbangali Dharug Nura Project: NIRIN Gathering Day 1. This event offers a unique opportunity to connect with Indigenous ceremony, songlines, and storytelling at a significant cultural site.
Join us for an engaging day featuring live cultural performances and ceremonies that bring the stories of the land to life. Explore onsite installations created by Dharug artists Venessa Possum, Leanne Tobin, and Leanne Watson, which reveal the deep history and significance of the Blacktown Native Institution site. Meet the team from the Biennale 2020 and partner organisations, and chat with custodians who hold centuries of knowledge about this sacred place.
This event is designed for families and community members interested in Indigenous culture and history. Light refreshments will be provided to keep you refreshed throughout the afternoon. Please note the outdoor setting includes uneven ground and limited shade, so come prepared with a hat, sunscreen, and a reusable water bottle to stay comfortable.
The gathering takes place at the Blacktown Native Institution site in Oakhurst, NSW 2761. The site is open and natural, offering an authentic experience of the land and its stories. Access may require walking on uneven terrain, so comfortable footwear is recommended.
Weather can be unpredictable, so dress appropriately for outdoor conditions. The event space has limited shade, so sun protection is essential. This is a free community event celebrating Aboriginal culture and heritage, welcoming all ages to participate respectfully.
Attendance is free of charge. While no formal booking is required, please check for any updates or changes to the event status before attending. This event was originally scheduled for June 6, 2020, but has been cancelled; please look out for future gatherings and community events.
