What to Expect
The Lab Five Dock offers a welcoming and supportive space for young people with autism who have an interest in technology. This program encourages social growth alongside hands-on learning in areas like gaming, coding, and 3D printing. Each session is participant-driven, allowing young people to engage with activities that excite them without any pressure.
Sessions are designed for young teenagers aged 10 and above, providing a safe and inspiring environment where they can hang out, learn, and enjoy technology at their own pace. Parents are welcome to stay in the library, which offers workspaces and free WiFi.
Activity Details
This term runs for 9 weeks during school term 2, 2026, with sessions held every Monday afternoon from 15:30 to 17:30. There is a break for the King's Birthday public holiday, so the term starts a week earlier than usual. Participants must bring their own device as no computers or iPads are provided.
The Lab Five Dock is specifically tailored for participants aged 10 and older to best support their interests and needs. Older teens aged 15 and above are encouraged to join The Lab Rhodes for a more age-appropriate experience.
Location and Access
All sessions take place at Five Dock Library, a convenient and accessible location within the City of Canada Bay. The library provides a comfortable setting for both participants and parents, with facilities including free WiFi and workspaces for parents who wish to stay nearby during sessions.
The venue is well connected by public transport and has nearby parking options. This makes it easy for families to attend regularly without hassle.
Important Information
Please note that photos and videos may be taken during sessions and shared on the library’s and Council’s communication channels, including social media and newsletters. Parents should notify staff if they do not wish their child to be photographed or filmed.
Participants are required to bring their own device (BYOD) as the program does not supply computers or tablets. The age guideline is strictly applied to ensure the group’s activities and social dynamics are appropriate.
The Lab embraces an unstructured approach, focusing on participant interests rather than a fixed curriculum, making each session unique and engaging.

The full term fee for 9 weeks is $419.40. Interested families should register their interest via The Lab website at www.thelab.org.au. After registration, you will be contacted with the next steps to secure a place.
