The Lab Five Dock offers a unique space for young teenagers with autism to engage with technology in a relaxed and welcoming setting. Participants can dive into activities like coding, gaming, and 3D printing, all guided by experienced mentors who support both skill development and social growth. This participant-driven approach means each session is tailored to individual interests, encouraging creativity and confidence.
The sessions are designed to be fun and inspiring, allowing young people to learn at their own pace while connecting with peers who share similar interests. Parents are welcome to stay nearby in the library, where they can work comfortably with free WiFi.
The program runs for 9 weeks during Term 4, 2026, on Monday afternoons from 15:30 to 17:30 at Five Dock Library. It is specifically designed for participants aged 10 and above, with older teens encouraged to join the Rhodes location. The Lab requires participants to bring their own device as no computers or iPads are provided.
Photos and videos may be taken during sessions for promotional use, so parents should notify staff if they prefer their child not to be recorded. The cost for the full term is $419.40, and registration is required through The Lab's website.
