Ever wondered what really happens to your recycling after it’s collected from the kerb? This engaging tour offers a behind-the-scenes look at Cleanaway’s state-of-the-art Materials Recovery Facility in South Guildford. You’ll witness the fascinating process where everyday recycling is sorted and prepared for reprocessing.
Visitors will see cardboard bailers in action, optical sorters separating hard plastics by polymer type, and systems sorting paper, glass, aluminium, and steel cans. It’s a unique chance to understand the scale and technology involved in turning household recycling into valuable resources.
Understanding the recycling process also highlights why correct recycling habits at home matter. Contamination can slow down processing and reduce material quality, while good habits help keep resources out of landfill.
The tour lasts 90 minutes and is guided by knowledgeable staff who will explain each stage of the recycling journey. Complimentary bus transport is provided, departing from Jack Mann Oval in Middle Swan at 9:30 AM to ensure timely arrival.
If you prefer to drive yourself, please arrive at the Cleanaway facility by 9:50 AM. For safety reasons, attendees must be over 10 years old and able to walk up five flights of stairs unaided. Enclosed footwear, long sleeves, and pants are required; safety equipment will be provided on site.
