World of Chords: Unlocking Guitar Harmony (13+)

An interactive workshop exploring chord progressions and guitar harmony for beginner to intermediate players.

Great songs don’t just happen! This engaging workshop invites guitar enthusiasts aged 13 and above to dive into the world of chord progressions and unlock the secrets behind their favorite songs. Led by professional guitarist and educator Katie Rosewood, participants will gain hands-on experience crafting their own chord sequences inspired by well-known artists.

What to Expect

In this two-hour session, you will explore how chords shape songs and create emotional resonance. You’ll analyze popular chord progressions and learn the essentials of chord theory including major, minor, diminished, and augmented chords. The workshop also covers the use of inversions to enrich your sound and provides resources to continue your musical creativity beyond the class.

Activity Details

This workshop is designed for beginner to intermediate guitarists who are comfortable playing basic open chords. You must bring your own guitar to participate. The session includes:

- Analysis of chord progressions from well-known songs

- Guidance on building your own chord sequences

- Simplified chord theory lessons

- Take-home exercises and resources

Location and Access

The event takes place at Ashfield Library, located at 260 Liverpool Street, Ashfield, NSW 2131. The venue is accessible by lift from the ground floor and is wheelchair friendly. If you have any access or support requirements, please notify the organizers when booking to ensure reasonable adjustments can be made.

Important Information

Katie Rosewood, a Sydney-based classical guitarist and music educator, leads this workshop. She holds a Bachelor of Music from the Sydney Conservatorium and has extensive teaching and performance experience. This workshop is free to attend but spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended.
