What to Expect

This workshop offers a practical, hands-on demonstration led by experts from the Worm Shed, making it perfect for parents wanting to teach their children about sustainability.
You'll learn how worms convert organic waste into nutrient-rich castings and liquid fertiliser, which are excellent for plants. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or new to composting, this session will provide useful tips to start your own worm farm at home.
This event is part of the Home Waste Compost Subsidy program, where you can purchase a subsidised worm farm or simply join to gain knowledge on recycling organic waste effectively.
Activity Details
The workshop runs from 11:00 to 12:30 on Saturday, 13 June 2026. It costs $5 per ticket, making it an affordable way to engage your family in eco-friendly practices.
Participants are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated and proof of address (such as a driver’s license or utility bill) if they wish to purchase a subsidised worm farm for $95 at the event.
Light refreshments will be provided to keep energy levels up during the session. The workshop welcomes all, including non-Cockburn residents, as neighbouring councils often offer similar subsidies.

The event will be held at Beeliar Community Centre, located at 33 Lakefront Ave, Beeliar WA 6164. The venue is equipped with accessibility features including in-map voice and accessible colour choices to support attendees with different needs.
Beeliar Community Centre is a family-friendly venue with ample parking and easy access by public transport, making it convenient for parents and children to attend together.
