This engaging workshop offers a compassionate approach to understanding and supporting young people facing difficulties with school attendance. Hosted by Tiffany Westphal from School Can’t Australia, it provides valuable insights for parents, carers, and professionals.
Participants will gain an overview of the challenges and distress experienced by young people struggling with school attendance. The session reframes 'school refusal' as 'school can’t' to foster empathy and effective support. Attendees will learn practical strategies to help young people manage their distress and explore the impact of stress on wellbeing.
The workshop covers recognizing early signs of distress, understanding the autonomic nervous system's role in stress, and how chronic stress affects mental health. It also offers guidance for parents and carers to maintain their own emotional wellbeing while supporting their young person. The session is recommended for anyone supporting young people experiencing these challenges.
This event is delivered online, making it easily accessible from the comfort of your home. It is hosted in partnership with City of Boroondara, Knox City Council, Maroondah City Council, and Yarra Ranges Council, ensuring a broad community focus and support network.
The workshop is free to attend and suitable for parents, carers, and professionals. It is designed to provide a supportive environment to learn and share experiences. Early registration is encouraged to secure your place.
