What to Expect
Step into the exciting world of making and technology at the Darling Square Library Makerspace. This workshop offers young people aged 12 to 17 a unique chance to explore creative coding, 3D printing, robotics, and virtual reality in a fun, hands-on environment. Whether your teen is new to making or already curious about STEM, this event provides a supportive space to learn and experiment.
Participants will engage with a variety of making stations guided by friendly facilitators who encourage exploration and creativity. It’s a fantastic opportunity to build practical skills, connect with peers, and spark new interests in technology and digital fabrication.
Activity Details
The workshop runs on Tuesday 21 April from 17:30 to 19:30. It costs $10 and requires booking in advance, with a class size limited to 12 participants to ensure quality guidance. All experience levels are welcome, and no prior knowledge is needed.
Attendees will have access to high-powered laptops, iPads, 3D printers, laser cutters, robotics kits like LittleBits and Spheros, and virtual reality tools such as Metaquest 3 and Gravity Sketch. They will learn core digital fabrication skills including 3D design and printing, use of open-source software, and hands-on electronics and physical computing.
Location and Access
The event takes place at Darling Square Library, Levels 1 and 2, The Exchange, 1 Little Pier Street, Haymarket NSW 2000, specifically in the Makerspace on level 1. The library and lift access close to the public at 18:00, so late arrivals after this time will not be admitted.
The venue is accessible and inclusive, with support available for any specific access or communication needs. Participants are encouraged to contact the Makerspace Programs Coordinator if assistance is required.
Important Information
Please note the age restriction: this workshop is only suitable for young people aged 12 to 17 years. 3D prints created during the workshop will be produced after the session and participants will be notified via email within 14 days when their prints are ready for collection.
Late arrivals will not be admitted after 18:00, and no refunds or transfers will be issued for late arrivals. Bookings can be cancelled up to 7 days before the event; cancellations within 7 days will not be refunded.
