Experience the vibrant rhythms of West African percussion in a lively, hands-on workshop designed especially for children. This session encourages kids to engage actively with music, helping them develop a sense of rhythm and cultural appreciation.
Children will spend the majority of the time playing drums, making it a fun and immersive musical experience. It's a perfect opportunity for your child to explore new sounds and express themselves creatively.
This workshop is suitable for school-aged children and promises an energetic and educational afternoon.
The workshop runs for 90 minutes, focusing almost entirely on practical drumming activities. Children will learn some of the most popular West African percussion rhythms through guided instruction.
Please ensure your child arrives 10 minutes early to settle in before the session starts. If a registered participant is more than 5 minutes late, their spot may be given to another child.
Registrations are essential and open from Friday 9 January at 10am. The cost to attend is $3 per child.
The event takes place at Lakemba Library and Knowledge Centre, located at 62 The Boulevarde, Lakemba 2195.
The library is accessible by public transport and has facilities suitable for children and families. Parking and directions can be found on the library's website or by contacting the centre directly.

This is a children’s event focused on music and cultural education. Parents are encouraged to stay or return promptly at the end of the session.
The workshop is designed to be highly interactive, so children should wear comfortable clothing suitable for active participation.
Due to the hands-on nature of the event, it is recommended that children be prepared for a lively and engaging experience.
Bookings are mandatory and can be made through the Lakemba Library. Registration opens on Friday 9 January at 10am.
The fee for the workshop is $3 per child, making it an affordable cultural and creative activity during school holidays.
