ArtPlay New Ideas Lab invites artists to bring fresh, innovative projects to life through collaboration with children and families. This unique program supports creative development in a nurturing environment where imagination and co-creation flourish.
What to Expect
Artists will engage in a dynamic process of dreaming, making, and showing new works designed for children aged 0 to 13 years. Participants receive financial support, materials, and dedicated space to develop their projects alongside young co-creators. The program culminates in a pitch session with industry professionals, providing valuable exposure.
Activity Details
- Up to $20,000 artist fees plus in-kind materials and equipment
- Venue and development space at ArtPlay
- Development period from 1 August 2025 to 30 June 2026
- Two-day induction on 10 and 11 June 2025 (attendance fee provided)
- Open to Australian-based artists or collectives passionate about working with children
Location and Access
ArtPlay is located in Birrarung Marr, behind Federation Square in Melbourne. The venue is accessible by public transport and offers a welcoming space designed to inspire creativity and collaboration among artists and families.
Important Information
Applications for the New Ideas Lab are currently closed, with expressions of interest reopening in February 2027. Projects must be new, not previously funded or developed, and include lead artists available for the induction. Artists do not need prior experience working with children but must demonstrate enthusiasm for co-creation.
