Badu Gili, meaning ‘water light’ in the Gadigal language, offers a mesmerizing nightly display that brings First Nations stories to life on the iconic Sydney Opera House sails. This free event features a six-minute animation showcasing the talents and stories of local and international Indigenous artists.
The projection celebrates the cultural heritage and artistic expression of First Nations peoples, including works by Mervyn Street, a proud Gooniyandi man, and Ningiukulu Teevee, a Kinngaimmiut Inuk storyteller. Activity Details
The projection runs every evening from 8:30pm to 10:30pm, from Wednesday 17 December 2025 through to Saturday 31 January 2026. Each showing lasts approximately six minutes and is displayed on the eastern Bennelong sails of the Opera House.
The lighting of the sails occurs at the top of the Monumental Steps, providing a great vantage point for viewing. Note that times may vary slightly with the seasons and other forecourt events, so checking the official website before attending is recommended.
