Dive into the world of music with this beginner ukulele workshop designed especially for those who have never played before. You’ll learn everything from holding and tuning your ukulele to strumming patterns and simple chords. This session is all about fun, confidence-building, and making music together in a supportive environment.
The ukulele is a wonderfully accessible instrument, perfect for children and adults alike, making it an ideal choice for families looking for a creative activity. No prior musical experience is needed, so come ready to enjoy and learn at your own pace.
Expect a friendly atmosphere where participation is encouraged, and you’ll leave with a few songs to practice at home and a new skill to enjoy.
This workshop will cover how to tune your ukulele, choosing the right size instrument, basic chords and chord transitions, simple strumming patterns, and playing along to songs. Kym Ormond, an experienced instructor, will guide you through each step with helpful tips for practicing.
Please bring your own ukulele if you have one; otherwise, a limited number will be available to borrow. When booking, select the ticket option that matches your needs.
The session runs for two hours, providing ample time to learn and ask questions in a relaxed setting.
The workshop takes place at 45 Albert St, Gumeracha SA 5233, within the Torrens Valley Community Centre. The centre is part of the Community Hub, which includes the Gumeracha Town Hall and library.
Parking is available in three areas around the community hub, including disabled parking spaces near the rear and front entrances. The venue is wheelchair accessible with ramps and disabled toilets on site.
For safety during evening events, it’s recommended to bring a torch or phone light, and dress for the weather, especially in cooler months.
The community centre is LGBTQI+ friendly, dementia friendly, and welcomes breastfeeding. Facilities include toilets with disabled access, baby change tables, a fully equipped kitchen, and a function room.
In case of Extreme or Catastrophic Fire Danger Ratings for the Mt Lofty Ranges, the centre will close and classes will be cancelled with refunds or rescheduling offered.

Tickets cost $15 and must be booked online. When booking, please specify if you will bring your own ukulele or require one to borrow.
