What to Expect
Experience the magic of the night as you learn about local nocturnal birds and other fascinating wildlife that inhabit Piney Lakes Reserve. This event offers a unique opportunity for families to connect with nature after dark in a safe and engaging environment.
After an informative talk, participants will embark on a guided night walk to observe these creatures in their natural habitat. It’s an exciting adventure designed for children aged 6 years and older, ensuring a fun and educational outing for the whole family.
Please note that younger children under 6 years are not suited for this event, and babes in arms do not require tickets.
Activity Details
The event runs for two hours, starting promptly at 18:00. Latecomers may not be admitted to ensure the experience runs smoothly for all attendees. The program includes an animal interaction component, so children must be able to sit still, remain quiet when asked, and have calm hands to ensure the safety and well-being of the animals.
Participants will be guided through outdoor areas with some uneven ground, so appropriate footwear and clothing are recommended. The event requires a torch and mosquito repellent to enhance comfort and safety during the night walk.
Caregivers are expected to supervise children at all times and help maintain a respectful and calm atmosphere throughout the experience.
Location and Access
The event takes place at the City of Melville EcoHub, located at 555 Leach Highway, Winthrop, within Piney Lakes Reserve. The indoor session is held in the Binjar Room before moving outside for the night walk.
Accessible parking is available at the front of the EcoHub, and the venue is equipped with ramps and accessible toilets. Public transport is encouraged, with a bus stop just a 2-minute walk away servicing multiple routes.
Directions include taking the first left after Murdoch Drive on Leach Highway when heading westbound, with clear signage for public parking.
Important Information
This is an outdoor event featuring a guided walk focused on observing live animals in their natural habitat. Participants must follow the facilitator's instructions and show respect throughout.
Animal interaction rules apply for the safety of wildlife. The event may not be suitable for children who have difficulty remaining quiet or calm during short periods.
Please wear enclosed shoes, long pants, and long sleeves, and bring weather-appropriate clothing, a torch, and mosquito repellent.
