Under the guidance of Mark Grunden, a maestro known from Bad Boys Batucada and Tumbarumba, you’ll explore powerful rhythms from samba to samba reggae. Traditional Brazilian instruments and some vocals keep the sessions lively and engaging.
You’ll find a mix of ages and backgrounds, all united by a love of music, friendship, and supporting local events and causes. It’s a place to jam, make friends, and have fun while learning.
Activity Details
Classes run every Thursday during school terms from 7pm to 9pm, with flexible attendance allowing you to join whenever it suits. The sessions cover basics of each instrument and rhythm patterns before moving into songs, with regular members on hand to help.
You’ll receive guidance on traditional Brazilian percussion techniques and may get sheets to practice at home. The classes culminate in opportunities to perform at community events and street festivals.
Bring ear plugs, drinks, and snacks. Instruments are provided, so just bring your enthusiasm!
Location and Access
The classes take place at 49 Nicholson Street, Brunswick East, in a hall located underneath the church. The venue is accessible via public transport, including Tram Number 96 (Stop Number 20), Bus Numbers 250, 251 (Holden St), and 504 (Park St).
This central location makes it easy for families to attend after school or work, with plenty of transport options nearby.
Important Information
The first class costs $10, with subsequent sessions at $20 each, or $15 concession. There is also a membership option where you can buy 5 classes upfront and receive a free session.
