Join a relaxed guided walk through Piney Lakes Reserve with Rickeeta Walley as you explore Bunuru, the Noongar season of adolescence. This season is marked by the flowering of Gum, Marri, and Jarrah trees and is known as the hottest and driest time of the year.
Local birds are especially active, feeding on ripe nuts and seeds from jacaranda, sheoak, and native trees. The walk includes plenty of stops for yarning and questions, offering insights into the cultural significance of the land and traditional uses of native plants.
This event welcomes all ages and encourages respect for each other and the environment.
The walk lasts approximately one hour, starting promptly at 15:00 with a short introduction at the front of the EcoHub. Participants should wear weather-appropriate clothing including long pants, comfortable enclosed footwear, sunscreen, a hat, and bring a water bottle.
The walk is mostly outdoors on hard surfaces with some uneven ground, so it may not be suitable for some walking aids. Caregivers are responsible for the health and safety of their children at all times.
Due to the event’s popularity, please cancel your ticket if you are unable to attend to allow others to participate.
The meeting point is at the City of Melville EcoHub, located at 555 Leach Highway, Winthrop, within Piney Lakes Reserve. Accessible parking is available at the front of the EcoHub.
The venue has rooms on multiple levels accessible via a ramp and toilets available within the building. Public transport is recommended, with a bus stop just a 2-minute walk away servicing multiple routes.
Directions include taking the first left after Murdoch Drive on Leach Highway when heading westbound, with clear signage for public parking.
This is a casual, family-friendly event suitable for all ages. Please be respectful to other participants and the environment.
Accessibility may be limited for those requiring walking aids due to uneven ground. For specific access needs, contact EcoHub directly via phone or email.
Participants are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles and wear sun protection due to outdoor conditions.
Tickets cost $7 per person. Booking is essential due to limited spaces and the event’s popularity.
If you cannot attend, please cancel your ticket to free up space for others. For more information and bookings, visit the event page online.
