What to Expect

Each Thursday afternoon, players gather to enjoy stimulating chess matches in a relaxed setting. Chess boards are provided, so just bring your enthusiasm and readiness to play. The sessions are designed to accommodate all skill levels, as long as you are familiar with the basic moves of each chess piece.

- Weekly sessions every Thursday from 13:00 to 15:00

- Free for library members; membership is free and can be obtained online or at any branch

Location and Access

The club meets at Lionel Bowen Library, located at 669-673 Anzac Parade, Maroubra. The venue is accessible and inclusive, with staff ready to assist with any access requirements upon request. Arriving 10 minutes early is recommended to ensure the session starts promptly.

The library is a community hub with convenient facilities and is easy to reach by public transport or car. Parking and other amenities are available nearby.

Important Information

Bookings are essential due to limited spaces, and you only need to register once to attend all sessions throughout the year. If you miss three or more consecutive weeks without notifying staff, your booking may be forfeited.

Late arrivals cannot be admitted to ensure the smooth running of the sessions. Covid-19 safety measures are in place and subject to change; please review them before attending.

Photography or video recording may occur for promotional purposes; notify staff if you prefer not to be included.

Booking and Prices

The event is free for library members. To participate, you must be a member, which is free to join online or at any Randwick City Library branch. Bookings open on 11 December 2025 at 09:30 and are made through Eventbrite. Early registration is recommended to secure your place for the year.
