What to Expect
If you love playing chess or want to improve your skills, this club is the perfect place to meet like-minded adults. Whether you’re a beginner familiar with the basic moves or more experienced, you’ll find a welcoming environment to enjoy friendly games.
Each session provides chess boards, so just bring your enthusiasm and readiness to play. This is a great opportunity to challenge your mind and socialize with others who share your passion.
The club meets weekly on Thursdays, offering a consistent schedule to fit into your routine.
Activity Details
The Chess Club runs every Thursday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, starting on 8 January 2026 and continuing until 17 December 2026, excluding public holidays.
Participants must be familiar with the basic moves of chess pieces to join. The sessions are free for Library members, but bookings are essential and open from 11 December 2025 at 9:30 am.
You only need to register once to attend all weekly sessions throughout the year. Please note that missing three or more consecutive weeks without notifying staff may result in forfeiting your booking.
Location and Access
The club is held at Lionel Bowen Library, located at 669-673 Anzac Parade, Maroubra.

Please arrive 10 minutes early to ensure the event starts on time, as latecomers cannot be admitted once the session begins.
Important Information
Attendance is limited to Library members, but membership is free and can be obtained online or at any branch.

The event may be digitally recorded for promotional purposes; notify staff if you do not wish to be photographed or filmed.
If you can no longer attend, please cancel your booking promptly to allow others to participate.

Bookings open on 11 December 2025 at 9:30 am and are made through Eventbrite, an external website.
Spaces are limited, so early registration is recommended to secure your spot for the year.
