Join a community-driven planting event at Packer Park where families can contribute to enhancing local green spaces. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to engage with nature while helping to create habitats for native wildlife.
You’ll be planting a variety of shrubs, groundcovers, and grasses that not only beautify the area but also help keep neighborhoods cooler and support local fauna. The event is designed to be educational and fun for all ages.
Our Biodiversity and Sustainability teams will be present to answer questions and provide tips on how to promote biodiversity in your own backyard. There will also be biodiversity-themed activities specially prepared for kids to enjoy.
The event takes place on Sunday, 17 May 2026, from 10:00 to 13:00. It’s suitable for families looking for a meaningful outdoor activity that combines environmental care with community spirit.
Participants are encouraged to bring gloves, sturdy closed-toe shoes, a sun hat, and a water bottle to stay comfortable throughout the morning. If you have a hand trowel or small digging tool, please bring it along to assist with planting.
This is a free event, welcoming all community members who want to make a positive impact on their local environment.
The planting day will be held at Packer Park playground, located at 120 Leila Road, Carnegie. The park is accessible by public transport and has nearby parking options.
Families can enjoy the playground facilities before or after the planting, making it a full morning of outdoor fun and learning.
Clear signage will guide you to the planting site within the park, ensuring an easy and welcoming arrival.
Please wear appropriate clothing for outdoor gardening, including sun protection and sturdy footwear. The event will proceed in most weather conditions, so come prepared for the day.
Children must be supervised by an adult at all times to ensure safety during planting activities.
All plants and tools will be provided, but bringing your own gardening gloves and tools is recommended for comfort and convenience.
This is a free community event, but registration is recommended to help organisers plan effectively.
You can book your spot online through the Glen Eira City Council website. Early registration is encouraged as spaces may be limited.
Volunteering at this event is a great way to connect with other local families and contribute positively to your neighborhood’s environment.
