Confined 17 invites you to explore a powerful collection of artworks created by First Nations individuals who have experienced incarceration in Victoria. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to engage with stories of resilience, culture, and lived experience through compelling visual art.
Visitors will encounter deeply moving artworks that reflect the disproportionate representation of First Nations Australians in the criminal justice system. The exhibition highlights the urgent need for social change and fosters understanding through cultural expression. You can expect a thoughtful, respectful environment that encourages reflection and dialogue.
The exhibition is part of The Torch’s Indigenous Arts in Prisons and Community program, which supports participants by enhancing their cultural, social, emotional, and financial wellbeing. One hundred percent of the proceeds from artwork sales go directly to the artists, empowering them to find new pathways beyond the criminal justice system. This annual showcase is a key event in the program’s calendar.
Confined 17 is held at the Glen Eira City Council Gallery, located at the corner of Glen Eira and Hawthorn Roads in Caulfield. The gallery is accessible and welcoming to all visitors. Ample signage and local transport options make it easy to find and attend.
The event takes place on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, from 10:00 to 17:00. Visitors are encouraged to allow plenty of time to fully experience the exhibition. The gallery follows all current accessibility and safety guidelines to ensure a comfortable visit for everyone.
Entry to Confined 17 is free, making it an accessible cultural experience for families and community members.
