Confined 17 offers a powerful and moving exhibition dedicated to First Nations people who have experienced incarceration in Victoria. Through their artwork, participants share their stories, culture, and lived experiences, creating a space for reflection and dialogue about justice and cultural connection.
Visitors will encounter a range of compelling visual artworks that highlight the disproportionate representation of First Nations Australians in the criminal justice system. The exhibition is part of The Torch’s Indigenous Arts in Prisons and Community program, which supports cultural, social, emotional, and financial wellbeing through art. Each piece is a testament to resilience and hope, with all sales proceeds going directly to the artists.
The exhibition runs for one day, providing a unique opportunity to engage with the artists' powerful messages. It is suitable for adults and families interested in cultural heritage and social justice. The event is free to attend and offers a thoughtful experience that encourages understanding and empathy.
Confined 17 is held at the Glen Eira City Council Gallery, located at the corner of Glen Eira and Hawthorn Roads in Caulfield. The venue is accessible by public transport and has facilities to accommodate visitors with disabilities. Clear signage and friendly staff will assist you upon arrival.
Please note the event is scheduled for Wednesday, 6 May 2026, from 10:00 to 17:00. Attendance is free, but visitors are encouraged to respect the sensitive nature of the artworks and the stories they represent. Photography may be restricted to protect the artists’ privacy.
