This is a fantastic opportunity for families and individuals who want to help restore and protect a species-rich coastal heath ecosystem. You'll be working alongside Council's experienced Bushcare Officers in a friendly and supportive environment.
Expect hands-on activities such as removing invasive vine and woody weeds and planting indigenous species to extend the natural vegetation around Gordons Bay. This rewarding experience not only benefits the environment but also offers a chance to learn about local flora and fauna.
Whether you are a seasoned volunteer or new to bushcare, this group welcomes all who want to contribute to preserving our natural heritage.
The bushcare sessions occur monthly, specifically on the 4th Thursday of each month, from 9:00 to 11:00 in the morning. The program runs until 26 November 2026, providing ongoing opportunities to get involved.
Volunteers will engage in primary works focusing on weed removal followed by supplement planting to enhance indigenous plant coverage. The work is physically engaging but suitable for a range of fitness levels.
Tools and gloves are typically provided, but volunteers are encouraged to wear sturdy footwear, sun protection, and bring water to stay hydrated.
The sessions take place adjacent to 5-7 Major Street, Coogee, within the Dunningham Reserve area. This location is easily accessible and offers a beautiful natural setting for outdoor activity.
Parking and public transport options are available nearby, making it convenient for families to attend.
The reserve is part of a larger coastal ecosystem, providing a scenic backdrop and a chance to enjoy the outdoors while volunteering.
