Immerse yourself in nature and community spirit with Wylie's Baths Bushcare. This rewarding activity invites families and individuals to help remove invasive weeds and plant indigenous species in a beautiful coastal setting. It's a wonderful way to connect with the environment and contribute to preserving local biodiversity.
You will be working alongside passionate volunteers and council staff who provide guidance and support. The work is hands-on but suitable for a range of fitness levels, making it ideal for parents looking for a meaningful outdoor activity with their school-aged children.
Expect to feel a sense of accomplishment as you help rejuvenate the bushland around Coogee Beach, creating a healthier habitat for native wildlife and enhancing the natural beauty of the area.
The group meets every month on the third Tuesday from 9:00 to 12:00. Sessions involve practical bushcare tasks such as weeding and planting indigenous plants. Tools and gloves are usually provided, but participants are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes, sun protection, and bring water.
Volunteering is free and open to all ages, though children should be supervised by adults. This is a great opportunity to teach kids about environmental stewardship and the importance of native plants.
The group has successfully revegetated large portions of the site and continues to work around the outskirts of the playing fields near Wylie's Baths.
Meet near the Council ute parked by the BBQ area opposite the entrance to Wylie's Baths, Coogee Beach. The site is picturesque, overlooking the ocean and is easily accessible by public transport or car.
Parking is available nearby, and the area is family-friendly with picnic facilities. This makes it convenient for parents to combine the bushcare activity with a day out at the beach.
Volunteers should wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear suitable for outdoor work. Sun protection such as hats and sunscreen is essential.
Children must be supervised at all times for safety. The council provides tools and gloves, but participants may bring their own if preferred.
Bookings are recommended to ensure adequate resources and support; contact details are provided below.
Participation is free, but bookings are essential. To reserve your spot or for more information, please contact the Bushcare Officer by phone or email.
This is a fantastic no-cost way to engage with your local environment and community while teaching children valuable lessons about conservation and sustainability.
