What to Expect
This engaging professional development workshop offers secondary teachers a unique opportunity to authentically embed First Nations perspectives into the Stage 6 History curriculum. Developed in consultation with the Australian Museum First Nations Division, it addresses significant curriculum changes arriving in 2027.
Participants will explore First Nations pedagogies, current research, and the documentary Her Name is Nanny Nellie, which provides powerful insights into truth-telling, decolonisation, and reconciliation. This workshop equips educators with practical strategies and learning activities that can be immediately applied in their classrooms.
The day is designed to build confidence and provide a strong evidence-based foundation for teaching History with cultural authenticity and historical rigor.
Activity Details
This full-day workshop runs from 9:30 to 16:00 and is NESA accredited for 5 hours. It is specifically tailored for Stage 4 to 6 History teachers looking to enhance their teaching with First Nations perspectives.
The cost is $150 (GST included) per participant, with general entry to the Australian Museum being free. The workshop duration is approximately 6.5 hours, including breaks.
Please note that lunch is not provided, but there are excellent food and drink options available on-site.
Location and Access
The workshop takes place at the Australian Museum, located at 1 William Street, Sydney NSW 2010. Sessions will be held in the Patricia McDonald Education Rooms (Lower Ground) and Theatre (Upper Ground).
The museum is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, and general admission is free. It is easily accessible by public transport and offers a welcoming environment for educators.
