Dive into a unique sewing workshop designed for kids and teens who love creativity and sustainability. This is not your typical sewing class—there are no patterns or pressure, just pure creative freedom using rescued textiles.
Participants will thrift their own project starters from Sydney’s massive secondhand clothing warehouse, Re Place, using included Thrift Vouchers. From there, it’s all about unpicking, reshaping, hand-sewing, embroidering, mending, and inventing new fashion pieces.
Imagine finger-painting but with textiles! Kids learn through experimentation, making mistakes, and problem-solving, guided by a team of young fashion talents and circular fashion advocates.
This workshop runs every day from 9am to 3pm during the school holidays, specifically from Tuesday 7 April to Friday 10 April. It’s perfect for children and teens who want to explore slow fashion and sustainable creativity.
The mentors include emerging designers, HSC and university textiles students, and fashion-school graduates who make slow fashion exciting and accessible. The workshop encourages hands-on learning and creative play without any preset projects or “right” stitches.
Tickets include Thrift Vouchers to select your own materials, making each project truly unique and personal.
The workshop takes place at 7 Prospect Rd, Summer Hill NSW 2131, at the Inner West Sustainability Hub. The venue is accessible and located in a community-focused area, ideal for families looking to engage in sustainable creative activities.
Directions and further details can be found on the event’s website or by contacting the organiser directly.
Please note that the workshop is designed for children and teens interested in fashion and sustainability. No prior sewing experience is necessary.
All materials are provided through the thrift vouchers included with the ticket, so participants should come ready to dive into creative textile play.
Parents can expect their children to engage in a supportive environment where mistakes are part of the learning process and creativity is celebrated.
Tickets start from $120.00 and must be booked in advance. The price includes all materials and access to the workshop for the full day.
Booking is essential due to limited spaces and the hands-on nature of the workshop. For bookings and more information, please visit the event website or contact the organiser.
