What to Expect
Immerse yourself in nature and make a real difference by joining the Fred Hollows Reserve Bushcare program. This unique opportunity lets you work hands-on in one of Sydney's last remaining rainforest gullies, helping to protect and restore this precious urban ecosystem. It's a rewarding way to connect with the environment and meet like-minded community members.
Volunteers will engage in activities such as removing invasive weeds and planting native species to support the natural regeneration of the area. The reserve also features the last open creek line in Sydney's Eastern suburbs, making your efforts crucial for local biodiversity.
Whether you're an experienced gardener or new to bushcare, this program welcomes all who want to contribute to preserving this special green space for future generations.
Activity Details
The bushcare sessions are held monthly, specifically on the second Wednesday of each month, from 09:00 to 12:00. The program runs until December 9, 2026, providing plenty of opportunities to get involved throughout the year.
Volunteers will work alongside Council's Bushcare Officers who provide guidance and support during the sessions. No prior experience is necessary, but a willingness to get hands dirty and work outdoors is essential.
Please wear sturdy footwear, bring water, sun protection, and gloves if you have them. Tools and equipment will be provided by the Council.
Location and Access
The sessions take place at Fred Hollows Reserve, located at the end of Bligh Place in Randwick. This accessible location is within the Sydney metropolitan area and offers a peaceful natural setting away from the urban hustle.
Parking may be limited, so consider carpooling or using public transport where possible. The reserve is a special rainforest gully, so please respect the environment and follow any onsite instructions.
