What to Expect
Immerse yourself in the unique natural environment of Fred Hollows Reserve, one of the last remaining rainforest gullies in the Sydney metropolitan area. This volunteer opportunity offers a hands-on experience in bush regeneration, helping to protect and restore native flora.
You will work alongside Council's Bushcare Officers in a supportive community setting, removing invasive weeds and planting native species to enhance biodiversity. The reserve also features the last open creek line in Sydney's Eastern suburbs, making your efforts vital for local ecology.
This activity is perfect for nature lovers and families looking to engage children in meaningful outdoor environmental work.
Activity Details
- Sessions occur monthly on the 2nd Wednesday, from 09:00 to 12:00.
- The program runs until 9 December 2026.
- Volunteers will receive guidance and tools from experienced Bushcare Officers.
- Suitable for all fitness levels; children should be supervised.
Location and Access
Fred Hollows Reserve is located at the end of Bligh Place, Randwick. The reserve is accessible by local transport and offers a peaceful bushland setting within the city.
Please wear sturdy shoes and bring water, sun protection, and gloves if you have them. Meeting point details will be provided upon booking.
Important Information
Volunteering requires a commitment to the scheduled monthly sessions to ensure continuity of care for the reserve. The work involves physical activity such as weeding and planting, so please consider your health and mobility.
Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult at all times. All tools and safety equipment will be provided.
