What to Expect
Experience a vibrant celebration of International Women's Day at Baluk Arts, where culture, creativity, and community come together. This special event highlights the stories and artworks of Indigenous women, offering a unique opportunity to connect with their heritage and artistic expressions.
Enjoy a curated exhibition showcasing diverse interpretations of "badjur" (woman) through painting, drawing, and weaving. Sip on native Jala Jala teas as you explore the artworks.
Participate in a yarning circle featuring inspiring stories from Indigenous women artists, sharing their cultural journeys and creative practices.
Activity Details
The day begins at 10:30 with the opening of the curated exhibition. At 11:00, join the yarning circle to hear from Indigenous artists Terrie Stewart, Aimee McCartney, Vicki Thomas, and Sherryn Antonopoulos, each sharing their unique stories and connections to culture through art.
At 13:00, attend a weaved bracelet workshop led by Taungwurrung artist Sammy Trist. Learn an ancient craft and create two raffia bracelets while hearing stories of Country. The workshop is suitable for ages 15 and up and requires booking.
Location and Access
The event takes place at Baluk Arts, located at 5 Davies Avenue, Mount Eliza, 3930. The venue is accessible and welcoming to families and community members.
Mount Eliza is a beautiful area on the Mornington Peninsula, easily reachable by car or public transport. Parking is available nearby.
Important Information
The talk and exhibition are free to attend. The bracelet workshop costs $48 and requires prior registration due to limited places.
The event is family-friendly, with activities suitable for adults and children aged 15 years and older.
