Dive into a bright and playful painting workshop inspired by the quirky style of David Shrigley. This session encourages children in school years 3 to 6 to explore humour, kindness, and self-expression through colour restraint, quirky text, and meme-inspired imagery. Whether your child is a budding artist or new to painting, they will create bold, character-filled artworks using graphic references and their own humorous ideas.
Together, participants will reflect on how humour can help navigate difficult times and how creativity fosters kindness towards themselves and others. It’s a fun, engaging way for kids to express themselves and build confidence.
Please ensure your child wears clothes that can get paint splatters as this is a hands-on painting activity.
This free workshop is designed specifically for children in school years 3 to 6. It will run at the Lionel Bowen Library in Maroubra on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, from 13:00 to 14:00. The same activity is also offered at Randwick Library, but bookings must be made for only one location to allow more children to participate.
Bookings open online on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, at 09:30 and are essential due to the popularity of the event. The session is suitable for all skill levels, with no prior painting experience required.
The workshop takes place at Lionel Bowen Library, located at 669-673 Anzac Parade, Maroubra. The library is committed to accessibility and inclusivity; if your child has any access requirements, please contact the library in advance to arrange support.
The venue is easily reachable and offers a welcoming environment for families. Arrive 10 minutes early to ensure a timely start, as latecomers cannot be admitted after the session begins.
This event is exclusively for children in school years 3 to 6 who are members of Randwick City Library. Membership is free and can be obtained online or at any branch. Please book only one location to give others a chance to attend.
If you cannot attend, cancel your booking promptly to free up space. The event follows Covid-19 safety protocols, which may be updated with short notice. Photography and video may be taken for promotional use; notify staff if you do not consent to your child's image being used.
