After a busy day at school, children can unwind and reconnect with nature in this engaging after-school program. Set in the beautiful Wollongong Botanic Garden, the program encourages kids to move their bodies, explore their imaginations, and play freely outdoors.
Grounded in a child-led, nature-based philosophy, children follow their own interests through play while gently learning bush-craft skills, local flora and fauna knowledge, and environmental awareness. This supportive community fosters confidence, resilience, and strong social and emotional foundations through cooperative play, storytelling, and hands-on activities.
The program runs as a drop-off activity, allowing parents and carers a couple of hours to themselves while the children enjoy nature. Suitable for children aged 5 to 13 years, it welcomes all children including those with NDIS access needs, with individualised support available.
Sessions are held at the Garden's Education Centre and include opportunities for therapy bookings tailored to each child. Parents may stay as long as needed to ensure their child's comfort and happiness.
The program takes place at Wollongong Botanic Garden, located at 29 Madoline Street, Keiraville. Participants meet at the Education Centre (map ref: Q - 8). The closest carpark is also on Madoline Street.
Visitors can plan their visit with information on public transport, parking, and garden maps available online. The garden is open daily with free entry, providing a welcoming and accessible environment for families.
Bookings are essential via Bookeo, and places are limited to ensure quality experiences. Cancellation policies include credits for sessions canceled by the provider but no refunds for absences or late cancellations.
NDIS bookings require at least 48 hours notice to avoid fees. Credits can only be used within the same term for similar programs. The program is inclusive and strives to create a safe, empowering space for every child.
The cost is $42 per session or $360 per term (Term 4, 2025). Therapy sessions are available at a tailored cost upon inquiry.
Parents can book online and contact the Garden via email for any questions or support needs. This program offers a valuable opportunity for children to connect with nature and develop important life skills in a fun, nurturing setting.
