What to Expect
Dive into a world of creativity and discovery with Open Lab at Bonnyrigg Library. These sessions invite children and their guardians to explore a variety of STEAM activities designed to inspire curiosity and learning. From programming robots like Sphero and Kubo to digital design with TinkerCAD and Scratch, plus hands-on fun with LEGO® Education, there’s something to spark every young mind.
Each session is tailored for children aged 5 and above, making it a perfect weekend outing for families eager to engage in educational play. Guardians are encouraged to stay and support their children throughout the activities, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.
Prepare for an hour of interactive learning where kids can experiment, test ideas, and create projects that blend science, technology, engineering, art, and math in exciting ways.
Activity Details
Open Lab runs every Saturday in February 2026 with multiple sessions available between 10:00 and 16:00. Each workshop lasts one hour, including 10 minutes for arrival and 10 minutes for pack up, allowing children to fully immerse themselves in the activities.
Participants can choose from five different time slots per day, offering flexibility to fit your family’s schedule. Registration is required, and each child is limited to one session per day to ensure quality engagement.
The program is free of charge, making it accessible for all families in the community. It is recommended that attendees are members of Fairfield City Open Libraries, but membership is free and easy to obtain.
Location and Access
The sessions take place at Lab.LX STEAM, located within Bonnyrigg Library at 100 Bonnyrigg Avenue, Bonnyrigg NSW 2177. This accessible venue is designed to foster learning and creativity in a welcoming environment.
Bonnyrigg Library offers ample parking and is reachable by public transport, making it convenient for families across the region. The library premises provide a safe and supportive space for children and their guardians to explore STEAM activities together.

Important Information
Children attending should be aged 5 years or older, and guardians of children under 12 must remain on-site during the sessions. Guardians must be at least 16 years old to supervise.
Please be mindful of health and safety guidelines: anyone feeling unwell or showing symptoms related to COVID-19 should refrain from attending. The program facilitators strive to maintain a respectful and positive environment; inappropriate behavior may result in removal from the program.
Photography may occur during sessions for promotional purposes; notify staff upon entry if you do not consent to photos of your family being taken.
Booking and Prices
All sessions require prior registration through Eventbrite, with a limit of one booking per child per day. If unable to attend, please cancel your booking to free up spots for other families.
The program is free, removing barriers to participation and encouraging community engagement in STEAM learning.
