Paddle UP! Introduction to Paddle Squad
A fun and inclusive kayaking program for kids aged 6-11, running across four Friday afternoons in February 2026 at Maylands Peninsula.
Welcome to Paddle UP!, an exciting introduction to kayaking designed especially for children eager to explore the water in a safe and supportive environment. This inclusive program encourages kids to build confidence, embrace new challenges, and make lasting friendships while having a blast on the river.
What to Expect
Over four action-packed sessions, children will learn the basics of kayaking through engaging games and water-based activities. The program is tailored to be welcoming for all abilities, including para-adaptive kayaks and specialized support for physical disabilities. Experienced instructors guide every step, ensuring a fun and safe experience.
Activity Details
Each session runs from 16:30 to 18:00 on Fridays: February 6, 13, 20, and 27, 2026. Participants receive all necessary paddling gear including a sit-on-top kayak, paddle, and life jacket fitted by friendly staff. A Paddle UP booklet full of challenges and advice is also provided to enhance learning and enjoyment.
Location and Access
The sessions take place at Maylands Peninsula, meeting at the car park for Maylands Tennis Club located at the corner of Clarkson Road and Hardey Road, Maylands. Facilities include public toilets and parking. Participants should bring their own water as no water fountains are available on site.
Important Information
Children should wear comfortable clothing suitable for paddling and water shoes with soft, flexible soles. Dressing for the weather is essential—hat and sunscreen for sunny days or thermal tops for cooler weather. A water bottle is recommended to stay hydrated throughout the sessions.
