Step into the great outdoors and make a real difference by helping clear the invasive Madeira vine from Redwood Park. This hands-on volunteer event offers a unique opportunity for nature lovers and community-minded parents to contribute to preserving the park’s rich biodiversity. It’s a rewarding way to spend a Saturday morning surrounded by beautiful natural scenery.
You will join other dedicated volunteers in tackling an area that regular volunteers cannot manage alone, helping protect vulnerable species that call Redwood Park home. The event is designed for adults as it is not suitable for children.
Volunteers will be equipped with gloves, hats, and protective clothing to safely remove the Madeira vine. Bringing secateurs and a pruning saw is encouraged if you have them, as no chemicals will be used during the event. Remember to bring water and morning tea to stay refreshed.
The challenge runs for three hours, providing a focused yet manageable timeframe for meaningful environmental work. Registration is essential to participate, ensuring the organisers can plan effectively.
The event takes place at Redwood Park, specifically at the Picnic Area along the Warrego Highway section. To find the meeting spot, descend the range from Toowoomba to Withcott and turn left just past the 100km sign. This location is easily accessible by car.
Redwood Park is known for its natural beauty and ecological significance, making it a perfect spot for families who appreciate nature and want to teach their children about environmental stewardship, even if the event itself is adult-only.
Please wear a hat, gloves, long-sleeved pants, and a long-sleeved shirt to protect yourself while working. The event is not suitable for children, so plan accordingly. No chemicals will be used, making it a safe and eco-friendly activity.
Volunteers should bring their own tools if possible, and come prepared with water and snacks to stay comfortable during the morning session. Registration is mandatory to ensure safety and organisation.
This is a free volunteer event, but prior registration is required. Booking your spot helps the organisers manage volunteer numbers and provide necessary information before the day. Visit the event website to secure your place and find additional details.
Come along and enjoy a fulfilling morning outdoors, knowing your efforts help protect the natural environment for future generations.
