Unleash your child's creativity during the school holidays with this engaging painting workshop. Kids will explore colours, textures, and techniques while painting unique pots inspired by native Australian flora such as wattle, bottlebrush, and waratah. This hands-on activity encourages artistic expression and connection with nature.
The workshop is perfect for children aged 6 to 12 years and offers a fun, relaxed environment where young artists can experiment and learn new skills. Each child will receive a pot to paint, making it a memorable take-home keepsake.
Parents can enjoy watching their children immerse themselves in art or participate alongside younger kids, as children under 9 must be accompanied by a parent or carer who stays on-site.
This session is facilitated by Skye Andrew, an experienced artist with a Diploma of Fine Art from the National Art School. Skye brings her passion for painting and the outdoors to the workshop, creating a nurturing space for children to explore art.
All materials are provided except for art smocks or aprons, so parents are encouraged to dress their children in clothes suitable for painting messes. The session runs for 1.5 hours, providing ample time for creativity without overwhelming young participants.
The workshop is designed to inspire and educate, blending art techniques with natural themes to foster appreciation for native plants and artistic expression.
The workshop takes place at The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre, located at 78 Flushcombe Rd, Blacktown 2148. The venue is accessible and family-friendly, making it easy for parents to bring their children and enjoy the surroundings.
While there is no food or drink for sale on-site, visitors are welcome to bring their own coffee or snacks. For convenience, the nearby Young Lions coffee cart is just 200 meters across the road, open weekdays from 7:15 am to 4:00 pm.
Parking and public transport options are available nearby, ensuring a hassle-free visit for families.
Children under 9 years must be accompanied by a parent or carer who remains on-site throughout the workshop. This ensures safety and support for younger participants.
All painting materials, including the pots, are included in the ticket price. Parents should consider bringing art smocks or aprons to protect clothing.
The workshop environment encourages creativity and fun, but parents should be prepared for some mess as children explore different painting techniques.
Tickets are priced at $12 per child, which includes all materials and the pot to paint. Early booking is recommended to secure a spot as places may be limited.
Group bookings of five or more can be arranged by contacting Beth Sorensen, Marketing and Public Programs Officer, via email at beth.sorensen@blacktown.nsw.gov.au.
Bookings can be made through the Blacktown Arts website or by contacting the arts centre directly. This affordable workshop offers excellent value for a creative school holiday activity.
