Discover comprehensive parenting classes designed to support first-time parents and those needing a refresher. These sessions, led by experienced midwives, provide essential knowledge and confidence for the journey of labour, birth, and early parenting.
These classes cover a wide range of topics including managing labour and birth, induction, possible complications, and emergency procedures. There are also specialized sessions for elective caesarean births. You will learn about newborn care, breastfeeding, safe sleeping, emotional wellbeing, and community support options.
Classes are offered in small groups to ensure personalized attention. The labour, birth, and early parenting class runs over a full weekend: Saturday from 08:15 to 16:00 and Sunday from 08:30 to 15:00. The caesarean birth and early parenting class is a one-day session on Saturday from 08:15 to 16:00. It is recommended to book 4-6 weeks before your due date to keep the information fresh.
The classes take place at St Vincent's Private Hospital Toowoomba, located at 22-36 Scott St, Toowoomba City QLD 4350. The hospital is easily accessible and provides a comfortable environment for learning and preparation.
Only one ticket per couple is needed as partners/support persons are included. If your birth plan changes to a caesarean, contact the Dorothea Devine Maternity Unit reception to switch classes. Check with your health insurer to see if the cost is covered under your policy.
