What to Expect
Dive into the fascinating world of sound waves with STEM Together: Sonic Science! This engaging workshop invites children aged 5 to 12 and their adult teammates to explore the science behind sound through fun, hands-on challenges. Together, you’ll create sonic inventions that bring the science of sound to life.
Expect a lively environment where curiosity and teamwork are encouraged. Your child will not only learn about sound waves but also develop creative problem-solving skills while making music and noise in surprising ways. The workshop is designed to inspire both young and older minds alike.
By the end of the session, each participant will take home a unique sonic creation, extending the fun and learning well beyond the workshop.
Activity Details
This workshop runs over two days: Thursday 16 April and Friday 17 April 2026. Each day features two sessions: 10:30am to 12:30pm and 2:00pm to 4:00pm. The program is strictly for children aged 5 to 12 years, and every child must be accompanied by an adult participant.
The activities involve three exciting challenges that explore the science of sound using STEM disciplines—Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. These challenges encourage teamwork, creativity, and hands-on learning.
Please note that tickets are required for each child and accompanying adult. Creative Kids Vouchers can be used but must be submitted a week before the event.
Location and Access
The event takes place at the Australian Museum, located at 1 William Street, Sydney NSW 2010, in the LG Patricia McDonald Education Rooms. The museum is easily accessible by public transport and offers parking options nearby.
The venue is family-friendly and provides a welcoming environment for children and adults to explore together. The Australian Museum is open daily from 10am to 5pm, making it convenient to plan your visit around the workshop times.
Important Information
This workshop is designed specifically for children aged 5 to 12 years and requires adult participation. Each child must have a ticket along with their accompanying adult.
Creative Kids Vouchers are accepted but must be submitted at least one week prior to the event date. Please review the terms and conditions on the Service NSW website and the Australian Museum’s policies before booking.
Participants should come prepared for hands-on activities and wear comfortable clothing suitable for crafting and experimenting.
Booking and Prices
Tickets cost $52 for Member Children and $65 for Non-Member Children. Each child ticket requires an accompanying adult participant ticket.
Bookings can be made through the Australian Museum’s website. Early booking is recommended due to limited spaces and the popularity of the program during school holidays.
Creative Kids Vouchers are accepted but must be submitted in advance to secure your booking. Refunds are not available if your child does not participate after voucher submission.
